Common Gesneriads
are the African violet, the Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa), Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus), Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus), Cape Primrose (Streptocarpus), Flame Violet (Episcia), and Cupid's Bower (Achimenes).

 

Gesneriads include not only the African Violet (Saintpaulia) but also 2000+ other species and thousands of hybrids, many of which make interesting indoor houseplants.

 

Many gesneriads are grown for attractive foliage, often patterned and marked in contrasting colors.
